NOTE: This KB is for new (i.e., Outlook 2016 and newer) versions of Outlook for MacOS.

Using the instructions, below, you can set up a SmarterMail account in Outlook for Mac. Using these steps, all fields should get populated. However, in some instances the Full Name field may not populate. In these cases, and alternate means for entering that information is provided.

  1. Open Outlook.

  2. Open the Tools menu and select Accounts.

  3. If there are no accounts, click the Add Email Account button. Otherwise, click the + button in the bottom right and select New Account.

  4. Enter the user's full email address and click Continue.

  5. Outlook should automatically identify the server as an Exchange server. If it asks you to choose the provider, select the Exchange option.

  6. Set the Method to "User Name and Password."

    User Name: Your Email address
    Password: Your Password
    Mailbox/ID/Username: Your Email address
    Server(optional):mail.yourdomain.com

  7. Make sure the user's email is entered in the "Email Address" and "DOMAIN\username or Email" fields.

  8. Enter the associated password in the Password field.

  9. If not populate the "Server (optional)" field. Populating this field will bypass the autodiscover and will not automatically populate the Full Name field for the account.
You need to add the DNS record for your domain. (optional)
    autodiscover CAME mail.yourdomain
    _autodiscover._tcp. SRV 10 5 443 (your domain)
    Service: _Autodiscover
    Protocol: _tcp
    Priority: 10
    Weight: 5
    Port: 443
  10. Click Add Account.

  11. Then it will connect to your email account.
